Check out Raider during his Initial Evaluation session. This sweet guy gave his parents some grief on walks, so spent most of his time in the backyard. His parents wanted to be able to provide him with proper exercise, so gave us a call. Here they are working on thresholds.
Threshold training seems simple, but is really critical in addressing your dog’s state of mind. Dogs are impulsive creatures by nature, so by teaching thresholds we are forcing the dog to exercise impulse control. We are also teaching him to focus on his owners for direction vs. being externally focused. Also, by exiting in a calm state of mind, it truly sets the tone for the walk and sets everything off on the right foot. By training Raider to stay focused and calm and looking to mom and dad for direction, we are working him not only physically, but mentally as well.
