## What Is Balanced Dog Training?
## Debunking Dog Training Myths with Koru K9
**Ever wondered what balanced dog training really means—or why it works when other methods fall short?**
In our latest [Koru K9 video episode](https://youtu.be/r6jhElZ7WQM?si=d_byRRg71A6H2hGV), co-founders Ray and Bridget Murphy sit down with [Seattle](https://www.koruk9.com/dog-trainer-locations/)-based expert trainers [Shane Pierson and Damian Blanton](https://www.koruk9.com/about-us/our-team/) to break down what **balanced dog training** truly is—and why it continues to deliver long-term results for dogs and their families.
Together, we cover key questions like:
- What exactly is balanced dog training?
- What balanced training is *not*!
- Why purely positive reinforcement doesn't work for every dog
- What the terms **positive**, **negative**, **reinforcement**, and **punishment** actually mean
- How balanced training can completely transform your dog—and your life
## A Personal Journey from Positive-Only to Balanced Training
Did you know that our founders, [Ray and Bridget](https://www.koruk9.com/about-us/), started their dog training journey using *only* positive reinforcement techniques? Their experience with their own dog, Luna, revealed the shortcomings of that one-size-fits-all approach—especially when dealing with more complex behavioral issues like **leash reactivity**, [**anxiety**](https://www.koruk9.com/dog-anxiety-training-guide), and [**aggression**](https://www.koruk9.com/aggressive-dog-training-guide).
It was through Luna that they discovered the power of a **balanced training philosophy**: a humane, structured approach that combines clear boundaries, communication, and motivation—based on what the dog *needs*, not just what feels good in the moment.
You can read more about our approach to dog behavior and transformation on our [Leash Reactivity](https://www.koruk9.com/leash-reactivity-guide) and [Dog Aggression](https://www.koruk9.com/understanding-aggression-in-dogs/) resource pages.
