Leah has spent her whole life in orbit around two gravitational pulls – a love of animals and a love of storytelling. Her own story begins with animals. She grew up with cats and a dog at home and worked with horses at a local stable. Leah was obsessed with knowing more and more about the animals she shared her life with – to learn with them, read about them, and spent hours of play and training time bonding in the backyard. Leah has worked in doggy daycare and boarding settings, assessing temperaments and managing pack behavior, as well as working 1:1 with dogs as a trainer, walker, and sitter. It was almost a decade ago that Leah adopted a powerful and anxious one-year-old GSD mix called Peter and they began working with a balanced trainer to build a better relationship and greater clarity in communication. This training practice changed both their lives for the better and set Leah down the balanced training path she is on today.
A graduate of Koru K9’s Master Trainer Program and a dedicated lifelong learner, Leah is committed to continuing education through an ever-expanding reading and podcast list, taking seminars and workshops, and ongoing training and practice with great trainers and good dogs. Leah works and trains her own dogs; Peter (now graying a bit in the muzzle but just as powerful!) and a sweet stubborn Rottie girl called Hippo. Leah finds joy and purpose in the practice of building greater connection with her pack (and yours) through clear communication, foundational structure, deep relationship, and the power of play.
