Our board & train philosophy

Our Programs Are Different by Design

Koru K9's Charleston board and train program takes place in the home of an experienced professional dog trainer. Your dog lives and learns alongside their trainer, with personalized training woven into daily routines, exercise, play and rest. Pick-up and drop-off are included; we confirm placement and arrangements before the stay.

We start by understanding the dog you love: what drives their behavior, what helps them feel safe and what motivates them. Trust, clear communication and consistent boundaries shape a custom plan around your dog's needs and your goals. We move at the speed of your dog, building understanding before increasing the challenge.

From training in a real home to practicing around everyday distractions, the goal is to connect learning to your life together. Charleston life can mean visitors at the door, narrow neighborhood sidewalks and outdoor distractions. Tell us where your dog struggles most. We build toward those everyday situations, with outings and activity adjusted to your dog's readiness and the weather. Regular photo and video updates help you follow your dog's progress.

Your involvement is part of the program. A go-home lesson and follow-up coaching help you practice together and understand the cues, handling and routines your dog has learned. Phone and email support give you a place to turn with questions. We'll explain your program's included support and LunaDogAI access before enrollment.

Ashley has been a dog trainer for almost a decade, with a special interest in behavior modification and rehabilitation. She's worked with nearly every issue an owner can run into, including rambunctious puppies, fear, anxiety, reactivity, and aggression. She also has experience with specialized work like service dog training, police and military K9 work, and personal protection dogs.

Ashley's own two dogs are proof of what training can do. Ronan, her Malinois, came to her with a severe bite history, resource guarding, a habit of running off, and kennel anxiety. Wooster, her Schipperke, had his own bite history, was reactive on leash, and would actively seek out fights with Ronan.

Today, you'd never guess it. Both dogs are balanced, easy to live with, and able to coexist peacefully, thanks to a strong relationship, clear boundaries, and outlets suited to each of their breeds. Ashley wants every owner to experience that same relief and connection with their dog.

Her approach centers on motivational teaching that builds dogs up and brings out their best, rather than suppressing behavior through force and intimidation. Ashley is a graduate of the Tarheel Canine School for Dog Trainers, where she obtained her Master Dog Trainer certification with a focus on obedience, behavior modification, detection, tracking, and patrol work.

She's also completed intensive coursework in canine neurobiology, genetics, and endocrinology, earning a certificate in applying natural sciences to canine behavior modification and training. Ashley is a graduate of the University of Washington's Applied Animal Behaviorist program, granting her the title of Animal Behaviorist. She is also a certified Pet Nutrition Coach through the North American Veterinary Community.

Ashley actively competes in PSA (Protection Sports Association) with Ronan, who holds a PSA 1 title. He is also trained in narcotics detection and human odor tracking. She is working towards earning competitive obedience titles with Wooster.

Good dogs. Good questions.

Charleston board & train: Your questions, answered.

Your dog lives in a professional trainer's home serving the Charleston area. Training is woven into daily routines, with exercise, play and rest. We discuss your dog's needs, trainer placement and pick-up arrangements before their stay.

Koru K9's two-week Puppy Board & Train starts at $2,900. Standard programs start at $3,900 for three weeks, $4,800 for four weeks and $6,800 for six weeks. The three-week refresher for returning clients starts at $3,300. We'll confirm your dog's suitability, trainer availability, what is included and the total cost before you book.

These are behaviors we work with, along with everyday manners. Suitability depends on your dog's history, needs and the care they require. Tell us about bite incidents, triggers, health concerns and previous training so we can discuss a safe, appropriate plan. No program can promise a cure or identical results for every dog.

Our balanced, relationship-based approach combines rewards with clear guidance and consistent boundaries. We learn what motivates your dog and explain the tools and handling in their plan. Depending on their needs, this may include leash guidance, prong collars or low-level e-collars. Owner coaching helps you understand how to continue safely at home.

Regular progress updates keep you connected to what your dog is learning. Your trainer explains their progress, and phone and email support give you a way to ask questions during and after the program.

Your trainer brings your dog home and coaches you through a go-home lesson. Follow-up lessons, phone and email support, and 12 months of free LunaDogAI support help you continue the learning together. You'll practice the cues, handling and routines your dog has learned; consistent practice at home is part of maintaining progress. We confirm the support included in your specific program before enrollment.

Pick-up and drop-off are included. Share your address so we can confirm service and trainer arrangements for your Charleston household. Your dog's stay is in their trainer's home and may not take place in your own neighborhood.

Koru K9 offers a two-week Puppy Board & Train program for puppies from 16 weeks to under six months, starting at $2,900. It focuses on foundations such as crate routines, potty training, early leash manners and confidence. Contact our team to confirm suitability and trainer availability for your puppy. For more than one dog, we'll discuss each dog's needs and available trainer capacity before recommending a plan.
